JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven volleyball team gears up for its second and final ASC Crossover this weekend. The second crossover is hosted by Texas Dallas in Richardson.Â
The Blazers will take on Sul Ross State (3-16) at noon on Friday before wrapping up the day with McMurry (12-6) at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Blazers will take on Concordia Texas (8-11) at 12:30 p.m. to conclude the crossover schedule for the Green and Gold.Â
Belhaven (7-13) will be seeking its first win against the three schools, as they are a combined 0-5. This will be the third meeting all-time against the Lobos and the Warhawks, and this will be the second meeting against the Tornados.Â
Prior to Belhaven's move to NCAA Division III and the American Southwest Conference, the Blazers faced both McMurry and Sul Ross in the early days of the program. The Blazers faced the Lobos in 1996 in a neutral match, while the Warhawks travelled to Jackson the next year to take on the Blazers.Â
The Blazers are coming off a weekend where they saw two five-set matches sandwiched between a sweep by No. 9 Texas Dallas. The Blazers dropped both five-set marathons with Millsaps on Oct. 4 and Texas-Tyler on Oct. 8.Â
Hope Tourney is currently on a remarkable start in her freshman campaign. The Pensacola, Fla. native totaled 86 kills on 244 attacks with 39 errors in the month of September; however, in the month of October, she has limited her errors on attacks with only 12, and 30 kills for a .207 attack percentage.
Kelly Aholt ranks 15th in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) in assists, averaging 8.19 per set. The junior set a new career mark in assists with 59 on Saturday against Texas-Tyler, and she now has 1,772 in her career. With her performance, she surpasses Amy Lejarzar's 1,742 assists for fourth-best in school history.
Blaykleigh Smythe is currently 23rd in the NCCAA in attack percentage on the year with a .269 percentage.
As a team, the Blazers have improved their kill and attacking percentage with the calendar shifting to October. Belhaven has averaged 11.6 kills per set in October, while only killing 10.3 attacks per set in September.Â
On the attack, the Blazers have a .132 percentage in the month of October compared to a .119 percentage in September.
