BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Belhaven Blazers fell to Howard Payne University 64-72 on Saturday in ASC play.
 
Belhaven trailed at halftime 39-34, but the Blazers came out and worked back to take the lead 45-44 with 12:29 remaining.
 
The Blazers were unable to hold on to the lead as the Yellow Jackets followed up with a three and never relinquished the lead.
 
Josh Gaskin led four Blazers in double figures on the day, finishing with 15 points. Gaskin also had five rebounds, two steals and a block.
 
De'la Mayers had another big day defensively, tying the school record for the third time this season with six blocks. Mayers holds four of the six school-record performances of six blocks in a game.
 
Mayers also had 11 points and eight rebounds in the game.
 
Jack Griffiths had is best scoring performance of the season, finishing with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field, including three from behind the arc.
 
Josh Carpenter also finished in double figures, recording 11 points to go along with four rebounds.
 
The Blazers will return home to Rugg Arena to start ASC East Division play against Louisiana College on Thursday, January 14. Belhaven tips off against the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m.
