JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Men's Basketball team fell to Louisiana College in a tight battle Thursday night, 62-69 in Rugg Arena.
After 20 minutes, Belhaven carried a 28-20 lead into the break, large in part to forcing 15 Wildcats turnovers.
However, things changed early in the second half for the Blazers, as they fell behind after the Wildcats opened up with a 15-1 run to take a 35-29 lead.
Belhaven would lead once more, but just for one possession as the Wildcats answered back with nearly 60 percent shooting in the second half.
Josh Carpenter led all scorers with 21 points in the game. He also had five assists, four rebounds and a steal.
Josh Gaskin and
De'la Mayers also finished in double figures for Belhaven. Gaskin had 12 points, while also recording five rebounds and two assists.
Mayers finished with 11 points and also led the Blazers with eight rebounds, while also recording one block.
Fred Douglas had a big day defensively, recording six of the Blazers 12 steals. He also had seven points, a block, and a rebound.
Belhaven will return to action on Saturday, hosting East Texas Baptist in an afternoon clash among ASC East opponents. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Rugg Arena.
