JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Men's Basketball team fell to East Texas Baptist 56-66 Saturday afternoon in a battle of ASC East Division foes.
Belhaven jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the contest and carried a 26-23 lead into the break, but were unable to contain a resurgent Tigers team that took the lead with 15:44 remaining and held the Blazers off for the remainder of the contest.
Josh Carpenter led the way for the Blazers and led all players in the game with 28 points. Carpenter also had four rebounds a steal and an assist.
De'la Mayers also had a big night from the field, going a perfect 5-for-5 on field goal opportunities to finish with 13 points in the game. Mayers also had seven rebounds to share the team high with
Josh Gaskin.
Defensively, Mayers also had four of Belhaven's six blocks in the game, along with two assists and a steal.
Gaskin finished with the other two blocks and also had six points to go along with his seven boards. Gaskin also had a team high three steals.
Jack Griffiths was the fourth and final scorer for Belhaven on the night, scoring the other nine points for the Blazers in the game.
The Blazers will return to the road next week, traveling to LeTourneau University for the first of two straight in East Texas. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Longview.
