ALPINE, Texas - Belhaven was unable to complete a comeback Thursday night, as the Blazers fell to the Lobos, 82-75.
With eight minutes left in the second half, the Blazers trailed the Lobos by a game high of 18 points. However, the Blazers were able to make a strong push and closed the gap significantly before time ran out, outscoring the opposition 19-11 for the rest of the contest.The Blazers' 53 percent shooting performance (26-for-49) bested the Lobos performance of 50 percent (26-for-52). However, the Lobos outrebounded the Blazers 32-27, with 12 of the 32 rebounds on the offensive glass.

Josh Carpenter and
De'la Mayers each put the Blazers on their shoulders, scoring 18 points each in the second half. Mayers did not miss from the field in the half, going 8-for-8.
Carpenter led all scorers with 27 points, a new career high. The Hattiesburg, Miss. native broke a 22-point performance against Mary Hardin-Baylor last month. He also added three steals, three rebounds and two assists.
Mayers finished with 24 points on 10-for-14 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.
Up next, Belhaven will travel to Brownwood, Texas to square off against Howard Payne. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tip on Saturday.
