Gregory leads Blazers to third straight win with 73-69 win over McMurry

JACKSON, Miss.Candler Gregory's had a career day on Monday to lead the Belhaven Women's Basketball team to its third straight victory with a 73-69 win over McMurry University.
 
Gregory extended her streak of consecutive games with a three pointer early in the first quarter with her first three-point attempt to give the Blazers an early lead. It was just the start as she would go on to hit four more threes in the first half, as Belhaven carried a 37-35 lead into the break.
 
The junior from Hampton, Ga. has hit at least one three in all 11 games this season. Gregory made one more three pointer in the second half to give her a total of six for the game, matching a career high and just one shy of the school record owned by Holly Dial and Sarah Carr. 
 
Gregory finished with a career high nine field goals and 28 points in the contest, going 9-of-16 from the field with six from behind the arc. Gregory was also 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and finished with eight rebounds to lead the .
 
Sierra Pittman fed Gregory the ball a lot in the contest, picking up a career high 10 assists in the game. Pittman also picked up her first career double-double, finishing with 10 points in 33 minutes.
 
The Blazers held a close lead for much of the third quarter, but opened it up in the final three minutes to as much as seven.
 
McMurry cut the deficit to one with 8:44 remaining in the game, but Belhaven worked the lead up to 12 points with 91 seconds remaining via a 70-58 advantage.
 
Belhaven finished the night shooting 39 percent from the floor, including 44 percent from behind the arc.
 
The Blazers will return to action on Thursday as they make the trip across Texas to play at Sul Ross State University. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Alpine, Texas.
