ALPINE, Texas – The Belhaven Women's Basketball team defeated Sul Ross State 63-49 on Thursday night to extend its winning streak to four games.
The Blazers were off and running from the tip, as the Green and Gold led throughout the entire contest thanks to an 18-4 run in the first 7:49.
Belhaven would finish the contest shooting 22-for-50 from the field, good for 44 percent. The high shooting performance led to 20 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers and six fast break points.
Sierra Pittman contributed to the hot start for Belhaven, making seven of her nine first half shots, totaling 14 points. The Mobile, Ala. native finished with 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting, grabbed five rebounds and two assists.
Pittman's 20-point effort Thursday night is the second time in her last three games that she has scored 20 or more.
Candler Gregory extended her streak of consecutive three-pointers in a contest to 12 with 24 seconds left in the first quarter. Gregory finished with two from downtown, 11 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Kandice Sims led the assist column for the Blazers with five. She also contributed four rebounds and three steals.
Jasmine Brown led the efforts on the glass with eight rebounds. She also added five points and two assists.
Win Thursday's win, the Blazers pull even on the year at 6-6.
Up next, Belhaven will travel to Brownwood, Texas to square off against Howard Payne. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip on Saturday.
