JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Men's Basketball team fell to the University of Texas at Dallas 75-87 Thursday night in an ASC East Division battle.
Belhaven fell behind midway through the first half, but used an 11-point swing over the final few minutes to take a 46-43 lead into the break.
However, UT Dallas continued to score at a high rate and Belhaven struggled from the field in the second half, falling behind late on after being outscored by 15 in the second frame.
De'la Mayers led the way for the Blazers with a 25-point performance. The senior finished 8-of-11 from the field and also sank nine free throws, while also recording six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Josh Gaskin was one better than Mayers from the field, finishing 9-of-11, but had just four free throws, en route to a 22-point performance. Gaskin also had six rebounds, which tied for the team lead.
Josh Carpenter was the only other Blazer in double figures, finishing with 11 points and three rebounds. He also had an assist and the only block on the night for Belhaven.
Jack Griffiths was held to five points, but the sophomore transfer also had three assists and two steals.
The Blazers remain at home in Rugg Arena with another ASC East Division matchup against the University of the Ozarks. Tip off is set for 3:00 p.m. against the Eagles.
