TYLER, Texas - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team fell to the No. 5 ranked University of Texas at Tyler Patriots 52-73 on Saturday, wrapping up a two-game road swing in East Texas.
The Blazers were outscored by the Patriots by 20 in the first half and were unable to chip into the deficit despite 48 percent shooting in the second half, while also holding UT Tyler to just 29 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes.
Candler Gregory had a strong first half for the Blazers, scoring 11 points in the opening 20 minutes. The junior would go on to finish with seven points in the second half to end with a team high 18 points for the contest.
Gregory also finished with eight rebounds to lead the team. In the second half, Gregory also hit a three pointer to extend her run of games with at least one three to 17 games.
Ieshia Dixon was the second leading scorer for the Blazers, going 4-of-4 from the field to finish with nine points. Dixon also added a rebound and an assist.
Jacinda Smith was the second leading rebounder for the Blazers, pulling down six boards to go along with four points, an assist, a block and two steals.
Sierra Pittman also finished with two steals to go along with eight points. Pittman also had five rebounds and two assists.
The Blazers will now return home to Rugg Arena to begin the final weekend of the first leg of the ASC East Division games. Belhaven will tip off with the University of Texas at Dallas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
