TYLER, Texas – The Belhaven Blazers Men's Basketball team fell to the University of Texas at Tyler 75-94 Saturday afternoon in an ASC East Division battle.
Belhaven fell behind early on a 12-2 run by the Patriots to open up the game and were unable to recover despite another strong performance from
Josh Carpenter and
De'la Mayers Carpenter led the way for the Blazers with his sixth 20+ point performance in the last seven games. The senior finished with 20 points, while also recording three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Mayers missed the first half of Saturday's game but made a big impact in the second half, finishing as the second leading scorer with 13 points and the teams leading rebounder with seven rebounds in 18 minutes. The senior also had three steals and two rebounds, which also led the Blazers.
Dyron Anderson also came off the bench to score double figures for the Blazers, finishing with 12 points in the game, nine of which came from behind the arc.
David Simpson also had three baskets from long range, finishing with nine points in the game on 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.
Jack Griffiths was held to just two points, but the sophomore transfer also had seven assists and no turnovers from the point guard position. Griffiths also grabbed two rebounds.
The Blazers will now return home to Rugg Arena to begin a three-game home stand, starting off with a non-conference tilt against Huntingdon. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m. against the Hawks on Tuesday.
