JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Women's Basketball team fell to Louisiana College Thursday night 56-79 in Rugg Arena.
Belhaven found itself in a close game after 10 minutes, with both teams shooting above 50 percent in the first quarter and the Wildcats holding a narrow 21-20 lead.
However, things unraveled for Belhaven in the second frame and the Blazers were unable to catch up after heading into the break down 13.
Ieshia Dixon, who had 11 points in the first quarter, led the Blazers with 16 points for the game. She also had four assists, three rebounds, a block and a steal.
Jasmine Brown and
Candler Gregory also finished in double figures for Belhaven. Brown had 11 points, while also recording five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Gregory extended her streak to 14 games with at least one three pointer. The junior finished with two in the game, part of 10 points. Gregory also led the Blazers with eight rebounds and recorded two steals.
Jacinda Smith had a big day defensively, recording four of the Blazers five blocks. She also had five points and four rebounds.
Belhaven will return to action on Saturday, hosting East Texas Baptist in an afternoon clash among ASC East opponents. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Rugg Arena.
