Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss.- The Belhaven Volleyball team picks up two more victories against Huntingdon College and Talladega College, as today marks the end of the Huntingdon Invitational in Montgomery, AL.
The Blazers defeat the Huntingdon Hawks 3-0 this morning. The first set ended in a 25-17 victory. The second set was 25-15 and the third set ended 25-14.
Freshman
Lauren Whiting led the way in kills, managing 7 with 0 errors and a .389 attack%.
Senior
Chae Levy finished with 6 kills and hit .375, while Senior middle blocker
Molly Boyer contributed had 6 kills and 1 ace.
On his team's performance, Head Coach
Justin Dee said "Altogether it was a great team effort to dominate in such fashion against an improved Huntingdon team. Huntingdon is a good team, we just played a great match."
"Lauren was amazing in both control and power throughout the match, while Jackie was literally all over the floor and gave us an offensive presence."
Sophomore
Kelly Aholt amassed 25 assists, while
Jackie Gunderson managed 13 digs.
Belhaven also faced Talladega today, and also walked away with a 3-0 win. The Blazers dominated in the first set, winning 25-12.
Talladega fought back in the second set, but it wasn't enough as the Blazers won 27-25. The third set ended in another victory for the Blazers, 25-21.
Sophomore middle blocker
Blaykleigh Smythe contributed 8 kills as
Molly Boyer had 6.
Sophomore
Kelly Aholt ended the game with 23 assists and 6 kills.
"The girls did a great job to come back in set 2 and also able to finish out set 3. We have some work to do, but it's a great day to be a Blazer!"
The Blazers finish the Huntingdon Invitational with a 4-0 record.
Next on their agenda is another matchup with Rhodes College to begin the Belhaven/ Millsaps Invitational, which will be on September 11th and 12th.
