Blazers End ASC Crossover Challenge

JACKSON, Miss. – Belhaven Volleyball split its matches today, picking up a win against Howard Payne University in their second match of the ASC Crossover Challenge, but fell to Concordia Texas.
 
The Blazers shut out Howard Payne 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, and 25-16).
 
Kelly Aholt led the way in assists against the Yellow Jackets, with 29.  She also collected 10 digs, one ace and one block in the match.
 
Molly Boyer was a force offensively and defensively, gathering 16 kills and five blocks for the Blazers.  On her performance, head coach Justin Dee said "16 kills in a 3-set match is unheard of.  She absolutely dominated the game. She hit .714!"
 
Behind Aholt in assists was Cassidy Fitzpatrick, as she collected three.  She also had 10 digs and two aces.
 
Senior Chae Levy gathered nine kills and one assist.  Dee had high remarks for Levy. He said "Chae also had a great match with nine kills.  It was a great answer to a slow start yesterday (versus Sul Ross)."
 
The Blazers fell 1-3 to Concordia Texas (22-25, 29-27, 21-25, and 10-25).
 
Against the Tornadoes, Libero Cassidy Fitzpatrick compiled 37 digs and one assist.
 
Abbey Herman and Jackie Gunderson each had 21 digs for the Green and Gold.
 
Kelly Aholt gathered 28 assists and one ace.
 
Freshman Lauren Whiting collected nine kills, while Chae Levy had eight and Jackie Gunderson had seven in the match.  The Blazers are now 7-8 on the season. 
 
"Our offense and serve receive was hit or miss.  We served well, but ran out of gas in the middle of set 3," said Dee.
 
On Friday Oct. 2, the Blazers will host the University of Texas- Tyler at Rugg Arena.  The match is set to begin at 7pm.
