JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Volleyball team fell to the University of Texas at Tyler Friday night in straight sets.
The Blazers were outscored 14-25, 19-25, 17-25 in the match.
After falling behind on a five-point run in the first set by the Patriots, Belhaven was unable to close the gap and the Blazers fell on a 10-2 run to close the first set.
In set two, Belhaven answered a tough start by responding with a 6-1 run to tie up the game. The teams found themselves tied at 16 before Texas-Tyler was able to put a couple small runs together and claim set two.
In set three, the Blazers fell behind 9-1 at the beginning and could not close the gap back, simply matching points with the Patriots to the end.
Lauren Whiting and
Molly Boyer led the Blazers with eight kills a piece in the match.
Jackie Gunderson and
Chae Levy each finished with five kills.
Kelly Aholt finished with 27 of the Blazers 32 assists in the match.
Defensively,
Annelle Anderson had four blocks in the match up front, including one solo block. Whiting finished with two blocks, both of them assisted.
On the back line,
Cassidy Fitzpatrick led the Blazers with 12 digs, while Gunderson had nine.
Abbey Herman had seven blocks in the game.
Belhaven will return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against the University of Texas at Dallas inside Rugg Arena.
