Belhaven Volleyball falls to #22 UT-Dallas

JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Volleyball team fell to No. 22 ranked University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday in Rugg Arena.

The Blazers dropped the match in straight sets, falling 21-25, 11-25, 18-25.

Outside of a tough second set for the Blazers, the Green and Gold challenged the Comets for most of the match, staying close to ASC leaders throughout the game.

"I think we played really well against two teams that are great this weekend," said head coach Justin Dee. "It was a solid team effort and we had the opportunity to go against one of the top 25 teams in the nation and we can hang our hat on a good team performance and group effort."

After a 9-2 deficit in the opening set, Belhaven crawled back, and closed the gap to within two at 23-21, via a four-point run, but the Comets held on to win the final two points.

After giving up a 6-1 run and a 9-1 run early in the third set, Belhaven pulled back the deficit again with key runs of their own, but the Blazers were unable to close it closer than four points at 22-18, falling in straight sets.

Chae Levy led the Blazers with seven kills in the match and Molly Boyer finished with six.

Kelly Aholt picked up 22 assists in the match.

Defensively up front, the Blazers had eight total blocks. Boyer led the way with one solo block and four assisted blocks. Levy finished with five assisted blocks.

"I think Molly did well today leading us on offense and keeping us in the first and third sets," said Dee.

At the back, several Blazers shared the defensive responsibilities. Allie Perkins led the Blazers with 15 digs.

"I thought Allie did great tonight leading the team in digs playing only half the time," said Dee. "It was a great effort from her."

while Cassidy Fitzpatrick finished with 13. Jackie Gunderson and Abbey Herman had 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday with a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana to face Xavier.
