ABILENE, Texas – The Belhaven Men's Soccer took care of McMurry 4-1 on Friday afternoon at Wilford Moore Stadium, using three first half goals to cruise by the War Hawks.
Belhaven (5-1-1) kept the scoring momentum going that it gained
in the final 20 minutes Wednesday and used it to defeat the War Hawks (0-8).
Freshman midfielder
John Dunbar started the scoring spree in the 25th minute for his first goal of his collegiate career.
Two minutes later off a corner kick by
Lucas Talaveira-Befi,
Andrew West took a header to the net for his second goal of the season, doubling the Blazers advantage.
Midfielder
Lucas Talaveira-Befi wrapped up the first half with his eighth goal of the season off a penalty kick, keeping his hot week going with his fourth goal in two games.
Almost three minutes into the second half, Dunbar helped freshman midfielder
Alex Hale notch his first goal of his collegiate career to push the lead to 4-0.
McMurry would eventually score late in the match to avoid the shutout, putting its only goal passed
Logan Tassin in the 90th minute.
"Today was another strong team performance where we relied heavily on our depth," said head coach
Carl Griffiths. "McMurry was organized defensively and made it difficult for us to break them down. As the match progressed, however, we were able to create opportunites and finish our chances."
In the victory, the Blazers allowed a season-low five shots to the War Hawks and it also gave them their 35th win away from the Belhaven Bowl since the start of the 2012 season (35-10-2).
Belhaven will finish its trip to Abilene on Saturday afternoon against Hardin-Simmons. The match is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
