JACKSON, Miss. – Belhaven's baseball team saw a four-game winning streak come to a close on Friday after suffering a 3-1 loss to Middle Georgia State College. The Blazers drop to 15-9 with the loss, including a 4-6 mark in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
Clint Wynn drove in the game's first run on an infield single in the third inning, only to see Belhaven's
Joey Harris plate the equalizer in the fifth. Dusty Jones and Tyler Epps each added an RBI for the Knights to help the team pick up their third straight victory and improve to 6-12 on the season.
Ben Allison received the starting nod for the Blazers, but a high pitch count forced him from the game after just four innings. The right hander walked five and struck out three while allowing only one unearned run.
Tanner Moulder was the first man out of the Belhaven bullpen and was charged with an unearned run over the course of two innings. That run proved to be the key difference in the game, as Moulder was saddled with the hard-luck loss.
Chris Good surrendered the final Middle Georgia run of the game in the seventh before
Jim Tom Copeland and
Michael Wurster each hurled a flawless frame. Belhaven pitching combined to allow six walks and six hits while fanning six in the series-opening loss.
Knight starter Adam Johnson kept the Belhaven offense in check, surrendering hits to only
Paul Pickerrell and
Will Mullen. The freshman struck out nine Blazers and went the full nine innings en route to his first collegiate victory.
Belhaven and Middle Georgia are set to wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader at Smith-Wills Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm.
