MT VERNON, Ga. – The Belhaven Blazers softball team split a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader with Brewton-Parker College on Saturday, winning game one 8-3, before falling in game two 4-0.
Dani Craft gave the Blazers the lead early in game one with a solo homerun to left field.
After a run by Brewton-Parker,
Mary Austin Barber gave the Blazers the lead back with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored
Meg Garton.
In the fourth inning, the Blazers added two more runs with a an RBI double by
Makenzie Hawkins and another sacrifice fly by Barber that scored
Carly Yasses and Hawkins, respectively.
Belhaven continued to add runs as
Haley Yasses had an RBI single that scored Craft in the fifth. Then in the sixth inning, Barber scored on a bases loaded wild pitch and right after that,
Dominique Corona hit a two-RBI single to score
Josie Porter and
Stacey Luciani.
The Barons would add solo homeruns in the sixth and seventh innings, but Belhaven came away with the victory.
Julienne Broussard earned the win after pitching a complete game. Broussard allowed three runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out five to improve to 9-3 on the year.
In game two, the Blazers were unable to but hits together in a timely fashion, scattering seven hits in a shutout loss.
Belhaven outhit the Barons 7-6, but it was Brewton-Parker who capitalized on an error and a dropped third strike to score three runs, two unearned in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Brewton-Parker would go on to add one more run in the fifth.

Haley Yasses and Hawkins each finished with two hits in the game. Corona and Luciani also had a hit each.
Jordan Herring picked up the loss after giving up all four runs, only two earned, in 4.1 innings pitched.
Sarah Beth Harbour pitched the last 1.2 innings, allowing one hit while striking out three.
The Blazers will return to action with a doubleheader against Mobile on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at McLeod Field.
