MOBILE, Ala. – The Belhaven Men's Tennis team split its doubleheader on Friday, defeating Mobile 6-3 before falling to Coastal Georgia 6-3 in the Southern States Athletic Conference Round Up.
In the morning match against Mobile, the Blazers fell behind 2-1 to the host Rams with just one doubles victory. The team of
Omar Lopez and Alex Puyol picked up the lone point with an 8-5 victory.
In singles action, the Blazers went on to win five of the six matches against Mobile.
Jefferson Nino picked up a win in No. 1 Singles, winning comfortably 6-1, 6-2.
Daniel Duarte also won comfortably in set one 6-1 and won a tight set two 6-4. Laclan Puyol also had a comfortable win 6-1, 6-3.
Lopez and
Rafael Siqueira also picked up points for the Blazers, winning 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-0, respectively.
In the second match of the day against Coastal Georgia, the Blazers picked up just three points against the Mariners.
Belhaven won two of the first three doubles points with a pair of 8-5 victories. The team of
Daniel Prado and Nino won one of the doubles points, while Duarte and Siqueira secured the other point.
However, the Blazers were only able to win one point in singles action. Nino won that point, again in No. 1 Singles with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 victory.
The Blazers will wrap up the SSAC Roundup with Loyola on Saturday at 10 a.m.
