BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Belhaven Blazers Softball team dropped a pair of conference games to the College of Coastal Georgia Friday afternoon, falling 1-0 in game one before a 5-0 set back in game two.
Belhaven had a strong pitching performance from
Julienne Broussard in game one, who was dealt with the hard luck loss. Broussard pitched all six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 7 Mariners in the game.
However, one hit was all Coastal Georgia would need in game one, as Taylor Horne had a two out homerun in the third inning that fell just beyond the reach of
Josie Porter at the fence in center field.
Belhaven had six hits in the contest, but could not find the timely hit to advance a runner past second base.
In game two, Belhaven struggled at the plate, being held to just one hit.
Haley Yasses had the hit for the Blazers, and Porter also reached on a walk and a fielding error, but neither was able to reach second base in the game.
The Mariners scored early with a homerun in the first by Haley Craven. Coastal Georgia then had RBI base hits in the second and fourth before Craven hit her second homerun of the game with a two run shot in the fifth inning to cap off the scoring.
Belhaven will return to the field on Saturday, looking to rebound against Brewton Parker College.
