JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven men's basketball team fell in their home finale on Thursday night, dropping a 67-64 contest to Blue Mountain College. The loss drops the Blazers to 11-18 overall, including a 7-10 mark in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
Senior
Datodrick Pinkston led the Belhaven offense with 17 points and was one of three Blazers to collect seven rebounds on the evening. Fellow senior
Jordan Bedford added 15 points, while
Josh Gaskin contributed ten points off the Belhaven bench.
Gaskin also added three blocks in the contest, and Pinkston,
Dycus Juste, and
De'la Mayers each recorded one to give the Blazers a total of six. Belhaven got to line significantly more than the Toppers, connecting on 17-of-21 against Blue Mountain's 6-of-8.
For the Toppers, Stefan Vukovic and Shane Butler tied each other for a game-high 23 points, while Butler also hauled in eight rebounds. Blue Mountain won the battle of turnovers, committing only 11 and forcing 14.
Belhaven outrebounded their hosts 39-32, but the Toppers outshot their hosts from the floor. The three ball proved to be a big part of both offenses, but Blue Mountain connected on 13 from behind the 3-point arc to sink the Blazers.
Belhaven is set to return to action for the regular season finale on Saturday, when they will take on the Loyola Wolfpack in New Orleans. Tipoff is slated for 4:00 pm.
