Belhaven's big night shooting leads to 71-48 win over Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – The Belhaven Blazers defeated Mobile 71-48 in Southern States Athletic Conference play, picking up their fourth win in five games.

The Blazers had nearly identical halves Saturday evening, outscoring the Rams 35-23 in the first 20 minutes and then 36-25 in the second half.

Belhaven put on a shooting clinic in the game, connecting on 56 percent (23-41) of its shots from the field, and 57 percent (12-21) from three-point range.

Mobile finished the game with 38 percent (16-42) shooting overall and 20 percent (3-15) from beyond the arc.

The teams traded baskets early on, but Belhaven went on an 11-3 run to pull ahead 17-10 midway through the first half. Dycus Just fueled the mini run with back-to-back three pointers and Jordan Bedford had the other five points, including another three pointer.

Belhaven maintained a 6-8 point advantage for much of the remainder of the half, until Bedford and Jerrial Dawson hit three pointers in the final minute of the half to give the Blazers a 35-23 lead at the half.

Dawson's three pointer, his first of the night, came at the buzzer and was Belhaven's seventh three of the half.

The second half became a Dawson clinic from three-point range, as Dawson would go on to connect on five of his six attempts in the second half.

Dawson finished with 20 points in the game, with all six of his attempts from the field, coming from beyond the arc. He also made both of his free throw attempts.

Bedford finished with 15 points in the game, the only other Blazer in double digits.

Belhaven will return home for its home finale and senior night against Blue Mountain on Thursday. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. in Rugg Arena.
