Blazers fall 3-2 in series finale against Mobile

JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven baseball team wrapped up their three-game Southern States Athletic Conference series with the University of Mobile on Saturday, falling 3-2 in the finale. With the loss, the Blazers were unable to avoid their longest losing skid of the 2015 season, which currently stands at three games.

Adam Kowalczyk was a bright spot in the Belhaven lineup, singling three times to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. The only other Blazer with a multi-hit game was shortstop Will Mullen, as he and Kowalczyk were credited with the team's only two runs driven in.

Will Cockrell gave the Blazers five strong innings on the mound, but it was Zach Osha saddled with the hard-luck loss after the Rams took a lead in the seventh. Osha suffered his third loss of the year, all of which have come in one-run games.

Jacob Hyde gave Mobile three innings out of the bullpen en route to his second victory of the year. The right hander surrendered just three hits before paving the way for Trey Cockrell to pick up his second save of the weekend.

Offensively, catcher Chandler Durham and first baseman Braxton Hamil combined for four of Mobile's eight team hits. The Rams moved to 12-4 overall, including a 4-2 mark in conference play, while the Blazers fell to 10-6 and 2-4 respectively.

Belhaven returns to action on Tuesday, when they host Tougaloo College in non-conference play at 4:00 at Smith-Wills Stadium. Through two meetings this season, the Blazers have outscored the Bulldogs by a tally of 30-4 in a pair of mercy-rule victories.
