JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Tennis teams picked up sweeps of Tougaloo and a double header against Rust College Saturday.
Five Blazers on the men's team played in all three matches in singles action.
Omar Lopez, Rene Ramoz, Laclan Puyol, and
Alexander Puyol all swept their individual matches on the day with 6-0, 6-0 victories.
The Blazers kept Rust without a point all day, sweeping the double header with 6-0, 6-0 finishes in singles play and 8-0 finishes in doubles action.
Against Tougaloo, Belhaven dropped just one point, which came in doubles competition as
Omar Lopez and
Rene Ramos defeated Keith Holmes and James Coleman 8-1.
Thomas Ojeda and
Rafael Siqueira won their singles matches against Tougaloo via 8-0 victories, following the decision of the match.
Similar to the men's matches, the Belhaven women's team also swept through its double header with Rust.
Five Blazers,
AnneMarie Kimball,
Stephanie Smith,
Mary Lichlyter,
Brittany Keeling, and
Ashley McLendon played in all three games in singles action, picking up wins.
Following the decision, Lichlyter and Keeling each one their singles matches against Tougaloo with 8-0 victories.
Kimball picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Tara Rowell of Tougaloo. Her sister,
SaraCaroline Kimball picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Megan McEwen.
McLendon defeated Adrianna Crawford 6-0, 6-2 in the only other complete singles match.
Smith defeated Valencia Bonds 8-1.
