SHREVEPORT, La. – The Belhaven Blazers fell on the road Wednesday night, dropping their non-conference battle with Centenary 75-96 at the Gold Dome.
Midway through the first half, the Blazers were behind by just three, however the defending SCAC Champions pulled away with a 19-7 run over the final nine minutes of the first half and Belhaven was unable to close the gap in the second half.
Despite the loss, the Blazers had their best night shooting in the young season, finishing 29-of-59 (.492) from the floor.
Josh Gaskin and
LaDarrius Drain shared the team high in points on the night, each finishing with 18. Drain was 9-of-10 from the field in 20 minutes of action. Gaskin finished 7-of-8 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Gaskin and Drain also led the Blazers in rebounds on the night. Gaskin finished with a team-high six boards, while Drain finished right behind him with five.
De'la Mayers was the only other Blazer in double digits on the night, finishing with 14 after leading the team with 10 at the break. Mayers also had two blocked shots to go along with two assists and a rebound.
Jack Griffiths had three assists on the night to lead the team. He also finished with six points and a steal.
Belhaven will return to action on Saturday with a trip to Montgomery, Ala. to face Huntingdon College in a double header with the women's team.
