Blazers set game record for blocks in loss to Berea

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Belhaven men's basketball team fell to Berea College 76-63 Friday night in the second night of the BSC Black Tie Invitational.

The Blazers set a school record on the night with 13 blocks in the game, two more than the previous mark.

De'la Mayers led the way with six blocks in the contest. Josh Gaskin also had three blocks in the game, while Josh Carpenter, Dyron Anderson, Fred Douglas and Samuel Mast all had a block each.

Despite shooting 52 percent in the second half, the Blazers were unable to overcome 35 percent shooting in the first half and could not erase an eight-point deficit after 20 minutes.

Three Blazers share the lead in scoring, all netting 15 points in the game.

Gaskin, Carpenter and Mayers each had 15 points, with Mayers picking up a double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds in the game.

Gaskin finished with eight rebounds and Carpenter also had six boards.

The Blazers were outrebounded by the Mountaineers 46-33 in the game. Berea used 20 offensive rebounds to score 16 second chance points, one of the big differences between the two teams.

The Blazers will be off for the rest of 2015, opening up the new year against Hardin–Simmons University at Rugg Arena on January 2. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
