MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven Blazers picked up their second straight win on Saturday with a 73-64 victory over Huntingdon College.
Candler Gregory and
Sierra Pittman led the way for the Blazers in the contest, each scoring 16 for the Green-and-Gold. Gregory missed her first career double-double by one rebound, finishing with nine in the contest.
Pittman also chipped in with six rebounds and had four assists in the game.
Vamikka Smith led the way for the Blazers on the glass, finishing with 12 rebounds to go along with seven points and three assists.
Maleah Isaac and
Jasmine Brown were also in double figures for Belhaven, scoring 12 and 10, respectively. Isaac's 12 points set a career high for the junior, breaking her previous best of six set earlier this season against Concordia-Texas.
Belhaven fell behind early with Huntingdon sinking four three pointers early in the first half to open up a 7-point advantage.
However, the Blazers answered back with a strong run in the remainder of the first quarter to go up 23-22 after 10 minutes.
The Blazers followed it up with their strongest quarter of the season, scoring 23 points in the second, while limiting the Hawks to just 11, opening up a 13-point advantage headed into halftime.
Belhaven outrebounded the Hawks 51-45 in the game and also had just 14 turnovers in the contest, 9.2 turnovers less than the season average heading into the game.
The Blazers will remain on the road for the remainder of the fall semester, with a trip to Birmingham up next. The Blazers will play Birmingham-Southern College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
