ATLANTA, Ga. - The Belhaven Blazers are set to open up the 2015-16 season with a road trip to Atlanta, Georgia to face NCAA Division III power Emory University on Tuesday night.

Belhaven Basketball is entering its 61st season and holds a 711-835 record all time. Head Coach Jonathan Vines is entering his second season as the head coach of the Blazers program.

The Blazers return six players from last year, including three players who averaged at least 20 minutes per game under Vines in 2014-15.

Senior De'la Mayers is the leading scorer returning for Belhaven, after averaging 12.4 points per game last year, his first with the Blazers. Mayers is also the leading rebounder coming back, averaging 6.7 boards per game in 2014-15.

Fellow seniors Josh Gaskin and Josh Carpenter also contributed heavily last season for the Blazers. Gaskin averaged 8.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last season, while Carpenter average 7.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Emory is 2-0 on the season and is coming off of an 88-54 win over Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday. The Eagles have played both games at home this season and are on a 7-game win streak. Emory was 15-1 at the Woodruff P.E. Center last season.

Belhaven played in an exhinition game last Friday, falling 67-71 to NCAA Division II Mississippi College in Clinton.

With Tuesday night's game at Emory, the Blazers begin their first season as a member of the NCAA and Division III, embarking on the first year of transition to full Division III eligibility and the American Southwest Conference.
