Blazers Win Eighth Straight, Shut Out Comets

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Belhaven men's soccer team win their eighth straight match, as they defeat No. 25 Texas at Dallas Comets, 3-0 in Saturday afternoon's regular season finale at the Comet Soccer Complex.

The Blazers (13-3-1) scored two goals in the first half. The Blazers started scoring in the 10th minute by Cillian Thompson, his 12th goal of the season off a free kick. With that goal, Thompson becomes the 13th Blazer to score 20 goals in a career.

About 10 minutes later, John Ledbetter was able to score his third goal of the season from 15 yards out to give the Blazers a 2-0 advantage.

In the 68th minute, Lucas Talaveira-Befi added the third goal of the afternoon with his 13th goal of the year.

Goalkeeper Ben Schaefer collects his sixth win in the box and his second clean sheet of the year. As a team, the Blazers finish the regular season with four clean sheets.

The Blazers extend their winning streak to eight matches, marking the longest active winning streak in the American Southwest Conference, and it is the second-longest win streak this season. The Comets hold the longest winning streak of nine matches, which lasted from September 18 to October 17.

"Today's win was an important result for us," said head coach Carl Griffiths. "We played very well and controlled the match both in possesion and in tempo. Our intensity was fantastic from start to finish."

The Blazers finish the regular season 9-1 in away and neutral matches this season. Since 2010, the Blazers are 51-11-2 in regular season matches away from Jackson.

Belhaven finishes the month of October 8-0. The last time the Blazers had an undefeated month with a minimum of five matches was September 2014, where the Blazers went 7-0.
