Seniors Lead As Blazers Shut Out Sul Ross State

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer Team continued its winning ways on a cloudy, brisk Saturday afternoon by defeating Sul Ross State 3-0 at the Belhaven Bowl.

The Blazers (3-5-1) continued their strong defensive play by only allowing four shots in 90 minutes to the Lady Lobos (1-6). With the win, the Blazers have picked up victories in three of the last four games, and all by cleansheets.

Belhaven got on the scoresheet in the 26th minute when Yaharim Satterwhite passed the ball through the middle of the Lobos' defense to Ashley Harber, who split the centerbacks and was able to bottom left corner of the net for her second goal of the 2015 season.

About 10 minutes later, the Blazers scored on back-to-back penalty kicks. After a foul was drawn at the expense of the Lobos in the 36th minute, Laura Quintero was able to finish strongly on a penalty kick for her first goal of the season.

Just a little over two minutes later, Dani Craft drew another foul in the box and the senior then became the third of the three seniors to score when she finished her penalty kick for her second goal of the season to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead.

The last time the Blazers had back-to-back clean sheets was in 2013 against Millsaps and Louisiana College.

"It was good to see our seniors step up with each scoring a goal today," said head coach Josue Sabillon. "The high morale of this team is becoming more evident after our successful week. We are looking forward to continue our positive direction on the road next week as we pass the midway point in the season."

Up next, the Blazers will travel back to Texas to square off with East Texas Baptist on October 9 and LeTourneau on October 10. Both matches are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.
