JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team was able to edge the Ozarks on Thursday night at the Belhaven Bowl, defeating the Eagles 1-0.
The Blazers (9-3-1) extend their winning streak to four matches and improve to 7-3 in one-match contests.
The Blazers were able to get on the board in the 78th minute. After a foul and a yellow card were issued against the Ozarks (5-5-2), the Blazers took advantage of a free kick.
Tulio Glasner was able to pass the ball to
John Ledbetter deep in the box to score his second goal of the season.
The Blazers improve to 3-1-1 when no one scores after the first half.
"We told our boys at halftime to get the ball in the box and test the keeper," said head coach
Carl Griffiths. "We felt like he was struggling in the first half, and if we tested him more in the second half, something could happen. It was not a pretty goal, but sometimes having a lot of chances does that. We had a lot of corner kicks and shots tonight, both on target and off, and in the end, one went in."
With tonight's win, Griffiths earns his 20th career win as head coach of the Blazers (20-9-1). He becomes the ninth coach in Men's Soccer history to collect 20 wins.
The Blazers will remain at home throughout homecoming weekend as they welcome Texas-Tyler into the Bowl for Senior Night as well as the final regular season home match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
