Box Score BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Belhaven Men's Basketball team fell to Blue Mountain College 75-66 Saturday night as a second half rally by the Blazers fell short.
The Blazers were able to close the gap to six points with a minute remaining after trailing 44-23 at the half.
Jordan Bedford played a big part in Belhaven's comeback effort as the senior scored 20 second-half points as he closed down the gap to 70-64 with 1:02 remaining.
Bedford finished with 27 points after the Covington, La. native had just seven points in the first 20 minutes.
Jerrial Dawson, who finished with 11 points, led the way for the Blazers with eight points in the first half.
Josh Gaskin was the other Blazer in double figures on the night, finishing with 10 points and a team high nine rebounds.
Belhaven and Blue Mountain had very similar nights shooting. Both teams finished with 39 percent shooting for the game and Blue Mountain finished with just one more free throw while Belhaven had two more threes in the game.
The big difference came in rebounds and resulting second-chance point opportunities. Belhaven was outrebounded 42-36, including 15-8 on the offensive boards. The Toppers turned in the second chance opportunities into 18 points while Belhaven had just six points.
Belhaven will return home for its next game against Loyola University on February 5. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. start at Rugg Arena.
