Blazers fall short after Golden Tiger surge

GAINSVILLE, Georgia – The Belhaven women's basketball team dropped their second consecutive Southern States Athletics Conference match to begin the new year. The Blazers fall to 8-6 overall (1-3 SSAC).

"After the long layoff and brutal travel, we played uninspired basketball," said head coach Steve Calder. Turnovers and missed free throws cost us a win today."

Belhaven went into the half with a three point deficit, but the Golden Tigers pulled away from the Blazers in the second half.

Ariel Wilson led the Blazers in scoring with 18 point in the contest on 6 of 13 shooting from the field. Candler Gregory and Kenya Wright also finished in double figures with 14 and 10 apiece.

The Blazers shot 21-53 (40%) from the field, but were edged by the Golden Tigers' 26-61 (43%) shooting from the field.

The Golden won the turnover battle by only giving up six in the contest, while the Blazers squandered 17 turnovers in the match.

Brenau won the battle of the boards, totaling 40 rebounds to Belhaven's 36.

The Blazers will host Dillard at Rugg Arena on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
