Belhaven falls 73-64 in SSAC setback

DALTON, Ga. - The Belhaven men's basketball team suffered their second Southern States Athletic Conference loss in as many days on Saturday, falling 73-64 at the hands of Dalton State College. With the loss, the Blazers dropped to 4-12 overall, including a 1-4 mark in conference play.

De'la Mayers highlighted the offensive effort for the Green and Gold on Saturday, as his 20 points and nine rebounds were both good enough for a team high. Jordan Bedford followed with 15 points, and Datodrick Pinkston hauled in seven rebounds. Josh Carpenter contributed nine points off the Belhaven bench.

For the Roadrunners, Sean Tate and Jordan Bowling each connected on eight field goals and four free throws, and the two finished the evening with a combined 44 points. Ladaris Green added ten of his own, while Green and Bowling recorded six rebounds apiece.

The Blazers shot an impressive 42% from the field but were still bested by the 43.5% effort of their hosts. Belhaven won the battle of the boards by a tally of 37-33 and connected on eight of nine attempts from the free throw line. Dalton State's night ended with a 13-for-17 effort at the charity stripe, and the Roadrunners were able to improve to 12-2 on the season.

Belhaven returns to action on Saturday, when they are set to host the College of Coastal Georgia at Rugg Arena. Opening tipoff is slated for 5:00 pm.
