Bedford, Gaskin lead Blazers to 90-88 win over Coastal Georgia

JACKSON, Miss.Josh Gaskin tipped in a rebound as time expired in Rugg Arena to push the Belhaven Blazers past the College of Coastal Georgia 90-88 Saturday night in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

Trailing by one, Jordan Bedford hit a three pointer to give the Blazers (5-12, 2-4 SSAC) a two-point lead with 44 seconds left. However, Coastal Georgia (3-14, 1-5 SSAC) was able to answer with a layup with 28 seconds left to tie the game at 88.

Coming out of a timeout, Belhaven's Bedford pulled up a jumper with four seconds remaining. De'la Mayers failed to tip in the rebound of Bedford's shot, but as the ball was coming back down, Gaskin was able to get another tip up before time expired and the ball fell in to give the Blazers the win.

Belhaven had an eight-point lead in the second half, but Coastal Georgia was able to rally and tie the game at 77 with 6:56 remaining.

The two teams traded the lead and tied the game several times before the Mariners took a one-point lead with just over a minute remaining, setting up the final few series of the game.

Bedofrd matched a career high in the game with 33 points. It is the second time this season that he has finished with 33, the other coming early in the season against LSU-Shreveport.

Bedford finished with five three pointers in the game and also finished with a team-high eight rebounds.

Gaskin's winning tip in gave him 16 for the game, one shy of his career high. Gaskin also finished with three blocks in the game.

Mayers and Datodrick Pinkston also finished in double figutes with 12 and 10, respectively.

On Thursday, Belhaven will return to action, traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss. for an SSAC game against in-state rival William Carey. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
