MARSHALL, Texas – Belhaven University Women's Soccer snapped a two-game losing skid Friday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over East Texas Baptist University.
Jessica Mahoney started off the scoring for the Blazers (3-3-0), putting the Green and Gold ahead with her fifth goal of the season in the 10
th minute, scoring with Belhaven's first attempt toward the East Texas Baptist (3-2-0) goal.
It was Belhaven's first goal in over two games, as the Blazers were shutout in each of the losses last week.
After
Nicole Walsh stopped the first seven of ETBU's 11 shots that were on target, the Tigers broke through in the 36th minute with a goal from Kia Jelley.
Walsh would go on to finish with eight saves in the game.
Despite being out shot 15-4 in the first half, it was the Blazers who carried a 2-1 lead into the halftime break after Mahoney completed the scoring.
Mahoney, who entered the contest on a scoring drought after netting four in her debut for the Blazers in the season opener, broke the tie for the second time in the game with a 44th minute effort to beat Christina Salas.
The Blazers out shot the Tigers in the second half 5-4, but neither team was able to put a second half shot on frame and test the opposing keeper.
Belhaven will have a quick turnaround as the Blazers travel to Tyler, Texas for a 3 p.m. kickoff with the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday afternoon.
