Belhaven falls 4-0 to University of Texas at Tyler

TYLER, Texas – Belhaven's women's soccer team fell 4-0 at the hands of the University of Texas at Tyler Patriots on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers wrapped up a road trip to Texas with a 1-1 record and now turn their attention to Southern States Athletic Conference play.

"Our defense was disciplined and the team stayed close to the game plan," Head Coach Josue Sabillon said. "Our girls showed a lot of heart today, but in the end, UT-Tyler's depth was what helped them win the match."

Lindsey Halbrook started the scoring for the Patriots (4-1-0) with six minutes left in the first half, and the home team went to the locker room with a 1-0 lead intact. Two minutes after intermission, Morgan Monzingo found Taylor Hernandez to make it 2-0, and the same tandem connected again in the 53 rd minute. Monzingo added a goal of her own four minutes later, helping the Patriots to their fourth win of the season.

Belhaven (3-4-0) saw senior goalkeeper Nicole Walsh record a dozen saves, keeping her near the top of the conference in that category. UT-Tyler counterpart Paige Harris needed just one save to shut out the Blazers in their final non-conference match.

The Patriots outshot the Blazers 33-3, including a 16-1 mark on frame. UT-Tyler also claimed a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks, taking five in each half.

The Blazers are off until they open conference play on October 2nd against Western Division rival William Carey. The contest is set to begin at 5:00 pm at the Bowl.

"We are welcoming the bye week so we can get ready for conference action and heal some nagging injuries," Sabillon said. "This weekend was very beneficial to end our non-conference play, as we feel we have been battle tested."
