JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven volleyball team fell 0-3 to 25th ranked Coastal Georgia in Southern State Athletic Conference play on Friday night. The match marked the Mariners' second consecutive victory over the Blazers in as many seasons.
In front of a crowd of more than 200 of Belhaven's faithful, the Blazers (7-6) battled, but dropped their third conference match of the season. The Mariners (14-0) earned their 15th consecutive conference victory dating back to last season and remained unblemished.
"I knew coming into the match that we would have to play our best to come out with a victory," said head coach
Justin Dee. "They out-served us, but we fought hard in the second and third sets."
Junior,
Taylor Hall led all Blazers with eight kills and 20 total attacks on the night, while senior Aly Plyler and freshman
Kelly Aholt led the Blazers in assists with nine each. Junior
Jackie Rhyne picked up 11 digs on the night, while the Blazers' service ace leader, junior
Molly Boyer, added three aces on the night.
The Mariners' Maddie Bounds and Emma Anderson led all players in kills with 12 and 11 respectively. Coastal Georgia's Cayley Meiners paced the court with her 18 assists on the night.
The Blazers host Brewton Parker in conference play tomorrow. The first serve is slated for 1pm.
