"It was another good battle today, and they actually outhit us for the second time in the series," Head Coach
Hill Denson said. "It's hard to win a lot of ballgames like that, but we were on top at the end of it."
Belhaven starter
Chris Good pitched five innings in one of his best outings of the year, allowing just one run on four hits before turning things over to the bullpen.
Andrew Gunn recorded the next two outs, but only after allowing the Lions to tie the game in the sixth.
Austin McCann (3-1) pitched the next 1.1 innings for the home nine, recording outs on all four batters he faced. The offense broke the tie in the bottom half, qualifying McCann for his third win of the season. Left-hander
Josh Rogers hurled a scoreless eighth before
Tyler Akins (13) recorded his second save of the series.
Offensively, the Belhaven lineup managed four runs off five hits before chasing Emmanuel starter Ahmad Williams after the sixth inning. Williams walked three and struck out one, while Aaron Westbury allowed one run over the final two frames.
Paul Pickerrell led the way for the Blazers, collecting two base hits and three RBI, including the knock that broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth.
Reagan Rutledge,
Emilio DeSilva,
Hunter Sutton, and
Josiah Richard each added a base hit, while Sutton was credited with the team's only run driven in.
The left side of the Lions infield did the bulk of the damage at the plate, as third baseman Billy Hutchins and shortstop Alex Delgado both found multi-hit games. Ahmad Williams contributed a hit to his own effort, while Ben Grillo, Jon Floyd, and Dacen Cash each mustered a single, as well.
The Blazers will return to action on Wednesday, when they host crosstown rival Tougaloo College for the third time. The Blazers currently lead the season series 2-0. The first pitch is slated for 4:00 PM from Smith-Wills Stadium.
