Mobile scratched across a run in the third inning before repeating the feat in the fourth, but the Blazers stormed back to plate three in the top of the sixth. Unfortunately, Belhaven was unable to secure an insurance run and the Rams tied the game in the final inning. With the winning run at third base, Carley Toretta grounded out to the right side, giving the Rams the afternoon sweep.
Offensively,
Katy Adair led the Blazers with two base hits, while
Ashlee Hitt drove in two of the team's three runs.
Shelby Watson,
Dominique Corona, and
Emily Todd each contributed a hit, with Corona driving in the only other score.
Ram outfielder Allie Luster sparked the home team with three hits, including a pair of doubles and an RBI. Emily Vickrey and Jordan Coleman followed suit, combining for four base hits and two runs batted in.
Belhaven's
Jessica Paris (12-3) was hit with the loss in the circle, despite giving up just two runs over the first six innings of the ballgame. The senior struck out five and walked just two over 6.2 innings before Toretta's game winner in the home half of the seventh.
Alyssa Kornegay countered with a strong outing of her own, surrendering three Belhaven runs on five hits while fanning five and walking three through the first 5.2 innings. Mackensie Williams (9-7) recorded the final four outs, allowing just one hit en route to the victory.
Belhaven took a lead in the second inning of the nightcap, though the Rams would tie the game just an inning later. Mobile found another run in the fifth, and it proved to be enough to boost the home team to their second win of the afternoon over the 13
th-ranked Blazers.
Adair and
Denee' Crawford each provided a two-hit game for Belhaven, but it wasn't enough to back another impressive pitching performance.
Ginger Lonergan (13-5) permitted just five hits and one earned run over her six innings, but ultimately took the loss for the Blazers.
Williams and Kornegay again teamed up in the circle for Mobile, with Williams allowing the only Belhaven run on just three hits over four innings. Kornegay (15-11) gave up two hits over the final three innings but struck out two while picking up the win for the Rams.
Anna Blake Barnette had the only multi-hit game for the home team, while Vickrey was credited with the team's lone RBI. Toretta and Phoebe Owen added base hits, and Mobile held in for their fifth win in as many games.
Belhaven will play their final regular season games on Saturday in a doubleheader with 10th-ranked Spring Hill College, who split their meeting with the Blazers earlier this year. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM from Mobile.
