MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Belhaven Men's and Women's tennis teams took the courts on Saturday for the second time in as many days at the Auburn University-Montgomery Invitational. Both squared off against the host school in the morning with the 8th ranked Blazers falling to the second ranked Warhawks 7-2 in a top 10 showdown. The women's team lost 9-0 to the top ranked Warhawks.

On the women's side, the Blazers were swept in all the singles and doubles matches. The Warhawks displayed their dominance as they validated their top ranking, dropping Belhaven's record to 6-5.

"We were outplayed in all phases today", Head Coach Levi Patton said. "They showed us and everyone else why they deserve to be the top ranked team in the country."

On the men's side, the Warhawk also turned in a dominant performance, but Belhaven notched a pair of set victories. Both wins came in the doubles matches. The No. 1 team of David Mejia and Nikita Lisov started things off with a 9-7 defeat over Josh Reason and Othmane Lalami. That effort was followed by the only other Blazer victory in the No. 2 slot with Andre Borghi and Enrico Patriarca's 8-4 defeat over Zinelabidine Jouini and Francisco Mendieta. The loss momentarily bumped Belhaven's record to 7-3.

"The effort was there for our men, but we were too tight to do some of the things we wanted to do," Patton said. "The injury to Nikita [Lisov] set us back, as we had to shuffle up the teams in doubles."

Both teams will host Rust College Saturday at the Belhaven Tennis Complex. Matches are set to begin at 1pm.

"We will have to get back to practice and regroup going forward," said Patton.
