JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Blazers Men's Basketball team fell to Mississippi College Tuesday night 83-75 at Charles Rugg Arena.
The Blazers (2-8) took a 43-37 lead to the halftime break, but the Choctaws (2-0) outscored Belhaven by 14 in the second half as the Blazers found themselves in foul trouble late in the game.
Belhaven's starting five finished with a combined 21 fouls in the contest, but also accounted for 67 of the 75 points for the Green and Gold.
Jordan Bedford led the Blazers with 20 points in the game, going 7-for-17 from the field, including four three pointers. Bedford also had six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals in 35 minutes of action.
De'La Mayers picked up another double-double for the Blazers with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the game. Mayers also had four assists and matched a season high with four blocks in the game.
Josh Carpenter also finished in double figures for the Green and Gold, scoring 12 points.
Belhaven struggled again from the free-throw line, going 15-for-25 while Mississippi College finished with 23 points from the line.
The Blazers finished with 40 percent shooting from the field in the game. The Choctaws capitalized in the paint with 52 points en route to 51 percent shooting.
The Choctaws also outrebounded Belhaven 45-31 in the game. The Blazers had just 24 points in the paint.
The Blazers did force 20 turnovers with nine steals.
Belhaven will return to action on Friday against Brewton-Parker in Southern States Athletic Conference action. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m., following the women's game.
