SELMA, Ala. – The Belhaven women's basketball team suffered their second loss in three days on Monday evening, falling to Concordia College of Alabama by a final of 80-61. The Blazers have now suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this year following their five-game win streak that opened the season.
Sophomore guard
Ariel Wilson, who led all scorers with 21 points, completed her double-double with a team-high ten rebounds. Wilson shot just 5-of-20 from the field but added 11 points from the free throw line. Senior
Kenya Wright continued her recent hot streak, adding 18 points of her own.
Tykeria Johnson highlighted the effort for the Lady Hornets, tallying 25 points, while Gaybriel Garrett lead the home team with ten rebounds. Concordia shot 38 percent from the floor, besting Belhaven's 30 percent, but the Blazers won the battle of rebounds by a slim mark of 47-45.
Belhaven shot 1-of-11 from behind the three-point arc and 20-of-33 from the charity stripe, while Concordia responded with 41 percent and 77 percent, respectively. The Lady Hornets fought off several Belhaven runs but never relinquished the lead after controlling the opening tip.
The Blazers return to action on Friday, when they host Brewton-Parker College in Southern States Athletic Conference play. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 pm from Charles R. Rugg Arena.
