TYLER, Texas – The Belhaven women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 68-42 victory over Texas College on Monday night. The Blazers (3-0) have now won their first three contests by an average of 25.3 points per game and are off to their best start since the 2011 season.

In the first half of action, the Blazers outscored the Lady Steers 34-25. Belhaven's 46% field goal shooting was the best first half percentage yet during the winning streak. The point production remained the same in the second half even though the field goal shooting dropped to 35%.

"The girls played extremely hard in a hostile environment, and it's always difficult to win on the road," Head Coach Steve Calder said. "We also got great production from our bench."

The Blazers finished with 27 of their total points coming from the reserves. Belhaven's bench shot 45% from the field, which topped the Steers starters' 33%. On the offensive end, Kenya Wright and TaShayla Steede were the top scorers for the Blazers, pouring in 16 points each. Ariel Wright added 15 points while 40% shooting from the field, and Steede also snagged a floor high 12 of rebounds on the night.

Steede also made her presence felt on the defensive end, finishing with three steals and one blocked shot.

Belhaven outrebounded Texas College 53-33 and were more productive in the paint with 28 points to the Lady Steers' 20. The Blazers also forced 22 turnovers on the night.
