GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Belhaven women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Brenau University on Saturday in the final game of the regular season. The Blazers now turn their attention to the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, which is set to begin next Saturday.
Vanessa Alexander got the Tigers on the scoreboard in the game's 11th minute, and Brenau carried a 1-0 lead into the half. Six minutes into the second half, Jenny Knibbs extended the lead to 2-0 before Mary Achebo added the game's final goal two minutes later.
"Today was a disappointing result," said assistant coach
Jessica Monarch. "We were able to create chances but lacked the ability to execute. The girls fought hard against a good team, but unfortunately we had a few costly lapses defensively."
Nicole Walsh recorded six saves in the goal, while Brenau counterpart Tori Brown needed just one to prevent Belhaven from scoring. The Tigers out shot their guests 14-3, including a 10-1 mark on frame.
"Coming off back to back tough games, we plan to get some rest and prepare for conference at the end of the week," said Monarch. The Blazers will return to action on Saturday, November 8th, when they will travel to Mobile to take on the conference's top-seeded Lady Rams. Times for the conference tournament will be released on Monday from the Southern States Athletics Conference office in Montgomery.
