JACKSON, Miss. – For the second time this season the Belhaven volleyball team defeated NCAA Division I Alcorn State. The Blazers won in four sets with scores 17-25, 25-14, 25-20, and 25-12. The Blazers previously defeated the Braves 3-2 at E.E. Simmons Gymnasium in Lorman, Ms.
After dropping the first set, the Blazers picked up their efforts and were victorious in three consecutive sets. The Blazers improve to 10-11 overall on the season.
"Early on we expected to have the game come to us, but after losing the first set we picked it up and played well," said head coach
Justin Dee.
Kills leader,
Taylor Hall added a season high 15 kills to her total. Hall also led the floor in total attacks with 36 on the night. Junior,
Molly Boyer added eight kills on 25 total attacks.
Kelly Aholt set the offense and led all players in assists with 25, and senior, Aly Plyler added 10 of her own.
Cassidy Fitzpatrick led the way for the Blazers in digs with 19, and sophomore,
Abbey Herman contributed 16 digs and a floor high five service aces.
The Blazers host back-to-back SSAC matches this weekend. Next, Belhaven hosts Bethel Friday night at 7pm, and Saturday the Blazers take on Martin Methodist at 6pm.
"We have two very winnable matches out in front us, but we need to compete for every single point," said Dee.
