JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Auburn University-Montgomery on Saturday, their second conference loss in as many games. With the win, the fourth-ranked Warhawks now stand a 1-0-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
"We played far better tonight than we did against William Carey on Thursday, so I'm really disappointed with the result," Head Coach
Carl Griffiths said. "At the end of the night, we just didn't finish our chances."
Sebastion Wladyko scored the lone goal of the contest in the 74th minute, and his defense made it stand up long enough to hold on to the victory. AUM outshot Belhaven 17-7, including a 9-3 mark on frame while taking an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks as well.
Daniel Prado recorded a career best eight saves, while Phillip Hitpass needed just three to give the Warhawks their sixth shutout of the season. The Blazers return to action on Thursday, when they take on Bethel University (Tenn.) in SSAC play. The match is set to begin at 7:30 pm.
"We showed tonight that we can create chances and defend well," Griffiths said. "We have to improve in the final third offensively if we are going to win games."
