MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Belhaven men's soccer team fell 3-1 to Bethel University (Tenn.) on Thursday night, their third loss of Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Wildcats remain unbeaten in conference action and now stand at 4-4-1 overall.
The Blazers fell behind 1-0 when Tevin Skyers found the back of the net in the 29th minute, carrying Bethel to a slim halftime lead. Errol Reed and Oluseun Olaniran added a goal each for the home team, with Belhaven's lone goal coming off the foot of
Victor Lawrence with less than three minutes to play.
Daniel Prado recorded seven saves in the net for the Blazers, while Bethel counterpart Mark Wier needed just four to help the team to their fourth victory of the season. The Wildcats outshot Belhaven 16-13, including a 10-5 mark on goal, while Belhaven took a 10-6 advantage in corner kicks.
The Blazers return to action on Saturday, when they take on defending NAIA National Champion Martin Methodist. The two squads played double overtime contests in each of the three times they met a season ago, but the Redhawks went 3-0 in those games. Saturday's match is set for a 7:30 pm start time.
