Blazers swept by 24th ranked Mariners

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Belhaven volleyball team fell to Southern States Athletics Conference opponent Coastal Georgia 3-0 for the second time this season. The 24th ranked Mariners bested all three sets 25-17, and have now won 20 out of 21 matches this season.
 
"I was really pleased with the way the girls performed tonight," said head coach Justin Dee. "It was a long trip, and they came out and competed for most of the match." 
 
Taylor Hall's nine kills on 21 total attacks led the Blazers offensively. The junior also tallied two block assists on the night. Amanda Cherry added six kills on 14 total attacks. The freshman finished third in hitting percentage behind Aly Plyer and Jackie Rhyne with a .357 on the night.
 
Kelly Aholt and Plyer set the tone for the Blazers with 12 and 10 assists respectively. The duo tallied all but three of the Blazers' total assists on the night.  
 
Alicia Wheeler led the Blazers in service aces on with two, while Rhyne contributed the only other ace on the night. Belhaven currently ranks seventh in the NAIA in service aces per set, averaging 2.2 and 14th nationally in total service aces with 176 on the season.
 
Jackie Rhyne's 12 digs led the Blazers defensively. The junior only rendered two reception errors. Blaykleigh Smythe added three block assists to Belhaven's defensive front. 
 
The Blazers will travel to nearby Mt. Vernon, Ga. to battle conference opponent Brewton-Parker on Saturday. The match is set for a 12:00 pm serve.
