JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven volleyball team was swept 3-0 by conference opponent Martin Methodist on Saturday evening. After defeating Belhaven in early September, the Redhawks complete the season sweep of the Blazers. The Blazers drop to 10-13 overall and 1-10 SSAC play.
After a tightly contested first set, Martin Methodist edged the Blazers 26-24. The Redhawks later won sets two and three 25-20, 25-22, respectively.
"We played well, but not well enough, and we didn't have the right energy or effort on the floor tonight," said head coach
Justin Dee.
Junior,
Taylor Hall led all Blazers in kills (12) and hitting percentage (.480). Hall was second only to Junior,
Molly Boyer (26) in total attacks with 25, and had no errors on the night. Freshman,
Blaykleigh Smythe added seven kills on 19 total attacks.
Senior, Aly Plyler and freshman,
Kelly Aholt paced the Blazers in assists with 16 and 12 respectively. Plyler also contributed four service aces and four digs on the evening.
Defensively junior,
Jackie Rhyne's 19 digs led the Blazers. Smythe and sophomore,
Chae Levy chimed in two block assists each to aid the Blazers on the defensive end.
The Redhawks Rosmerli Carrilo led the floor with 18 kills on 34 total attacks. Carrillo also tallied the highest hitting percentage on the floor, with a .471 on the evening.
The Blazers will travel to Brunswick, Ga. to take on No. 24 Coastal Georgia in SSAC play. The first serve is set for 6:00 pm.
